Bernadette Merchant registered her Ambajaye prefix in 19--. Her first breed interest was Border Collies but she branched out into Australian Cattle Dogs in 19--. After vowing never to be seen in public with a Stumpy, Bernadette found herself in the show ring with Aust Ch Bronzewood Zoe, aka Suzy, on the other end of the lead. Famous last words. Suzy became Ambajaye's foundation Australian Stumpy Tail Cattle Dog bitch and Bernadette, an active and tireless campaigner for the redeveloped breed. Since 1998 Bernadette has given lectures on the Australian Stumpy Tail Cattle Dog to aspiring Working Dog Group Judges under the RNSWCC Judges Training Scheme and, in 2000, her good sportsmanship was recognised when she received the Erskine Award, an annual award made by -------------- for --------------. Bernadette's casual work as a veterinary nurse at the North Richmond Veterinary Clinic helps feed her Stumpies but gives her freedom to care for them and to promote the breed.
